How do you define Primary place of residence?
Answer – An individual can only have one primary place of residence. It is defined as the residence where the individual lives on a permanent basis. You may own more than one house that you use for personal residence but only one will be defined as a Primary residence.
Who is a “Builder” under the rebate program?
A builder is someone who is in the business of constructing or substantially renovating houses for sale. A builder is also a manufacturer or vendor of a new mobile home, someone who buys a house for resale, a person who has converted a non residential property into a residential property.
What is considered a “House” for the purposes of HST rebate program?
Answer – A house under the program is a detached or semi-detached single unit house, a duplex, a condominium unit, a townhouse, a unit in co-operative housing, a mobile or a floating home.
How long does it take to receive my rebate cheque?
CRA will take 8-12 weeks to process your rebate application and issue your refund cheque/direct deposit.
Are the provincial rebates available for every province in Canada?
No, Provincial portion of rebate is only available in Ontario and Nova Scotia
Can I apply for the rebate if my home has been built using insurance claim?
Yes, you are eligible for the rebate if your home is reconstructed from insurance proceeds.
